Beneful Inspires Playtime with the First Dream Dog Park
Parks are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family – even those relatives of the canine persuasion.
On June 15 of 2011, more than 400 spectators, including Johns Creek residents and their dogs; city officials; TV personality and design specialist, Jason Cameron; bestselling author and pet expert, Arden Moore; and local media all lined up for the unveiling of the first Beneful Dream Dog Park in Newtown, Georgia.
While in attendance with his family, Johns Creek, Ga., Mayor, Michael Bodker raved “This experience was awesome. Other mayors keep asking me how they get a Beneful Dream Dog Park of their own.”
The media shared the mayor’s enthusiasm, as national media outlets joined local newspapers and bloggers to cover the event. The Johns Creek Herald, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Houston Chronicle, USA Today and CNN.com all ran stories detailing the day’s activities.
But, it was the Johns Creek community that shared the greatest thrill. The community had anxiously awaited the park’s opening since September, when Johns Creek resident Pat McNeely and his Siberian Husky, Koda, won $500,000 to renovate their local dog park in the Beneful Wag World Dream Dog Park Contest.
Pat and Koda’s dream ideas served as inspiration for the renovation. The project was led by Beneful Dream Team duo Cameron and Moore. Everyone worked together to transform the Newtown Dog Park into an enviable adventure destination for dogs and owners.
The Beneful team made sure that the fun amenities were functional – they regraded the area and added drainage pipes throughout the park. Some of the park’s most interactive and unique elements included a giant bone-shaped ramp with tunnels, two water splash pads and a running trail, all of which were put to good use as local dogs and their best buddies turned out to celebrate the unveiling.
